“At Malmaison, our mantra is to ‘dare to be different’. Being design-led and exceptionally creative isn’t easy. We work exceptionally hard in creating individual, sleek, moody and sexy hotels. Every building makes its own statement. Our flair for drama is matched only by attention to detail. Every space in our hotel serves a specific function but it does it with style. We are embarking on an exciting new era with a large investment in the refurbishment of our leading hotels.

We need suppliers to provide services that match our standards but also understand our visions. During the last quarter of 2013, we planned the refurbishment of Malmaison Charterhouse Square London. This was a very important concept project, whilst we were utilising Charterhouse Square as our flagship for our new look, we also had to keep it operational. After meeting numerous hotel refurbishment specialists, we decided on Paton Developments. Why? Well it wasn’t simply down to money or their track record, we simply clicked. We felt they really understood us and the Malmaison brand. They very quickly established a good relationship with our interior design company and architects.

After meeting the MD, Nick Paton, I quickly surmised that you probably couldn’t force the words ‘no’ from his lips if you tried. We needed this sort of enthusiasm and can-do attitude. We also felt this positive attitude reflected in all staff including the head office and the 50-strong team he put on the build. The whole team worked exceptionally well and Paton Developments played their part. They refurbished 100 bedrooms and bathrooms, rebuilt the gym, meeting rooms and refurbished the reception, basement bar and restaurant, all within the 12-week period.

We are very pleased with the new Malmaison Charterhouse Square London, the rooms and various spaces really reflect our ‘dare to be different’ brand culture. Everything was built and fitted by friendly professional staff to high standards and to our exacting creative brief. On time? Yes. On budget? Definitely. Will we be working with Paton Developments again? That’s easy! Certainly, it’s a new partnership, they’re a great supplier and we’ve already started the next project.”
